Bob Sumner reports that he just spoke with the Spring Creek Association:
“They confirmed that access through their property (standard route for Ruby Dome, Hennen Canyon/Butterfield Creek) is closed and is likely to remain that way for some time. Apparently the fire danger is so extreme they don’t even want hikers & backpackers passing through. The representative was not willing to give a timeframe for when access may be restored. She said it is okay to call them intermittently to check the status (775-753-6295) but that it’s unlikely anything will change.
Alternate routes for Ruby Dome include starting from road’s end in Lamoille
Canyon or Camp Lamoille (right fork of Lamoille Creek). Both of these approaches are open but are long and involve a lot of cross-country travel, including rugged terrain, brush, and rock scrambling. On the bright side, most of the snow in the Rubies has melted so that shouldn’t be a hindrance. The best bet at this point may just be to wait until next spring or summer.”
